TL;DR Section:
Chronicles Conclusion:
Highly recommended (Take in account that is a AA)
Pros:
Gameplay Still Holds
No Quick Time Events Spam
The Story Is Good Enough
Likeable MC
Cons:
No Parry
Level Structure Are Very Basic
Low Diversity Of Enemies And Weapons
AI Of Our Squad Is Extremely Limited
Brief Resume:
An action/3rd person shoulder shooter game, visceral and a bit bloody on certain moments but necessary to captivate the cruelness of this universe.
The Story/Setting:
We are talking about 8 to maybe 12 hours depending the difficult and your own skill, we also have multiplayer classic pvp but to be honest I didn't connect with it so I will focus on the campaign.
It's a classic advance, kill all the enemies and then continue to another zone to clean it to, with a bit of exploring and collectables on the way but pretty straight forward in formula.

Happy times eliminating heresy |
The magic is on the setting, we have a giant number of games set on the W40K universe, in this case I think they nailed the genre and the faction we are controlling.
We play as Titus, a captain of the Ultramarines, normally the characters of WH videogames are only in their respective games but Titus has gained so much spotlight that I can bet that he will get at least a book or a campaign, as he actually have 2 games and a special episode of secret levels, all deserved without a doubt.
We change objectives through the game and it has some interesting plot twists so I only want to do the minimum to be interesting and not ruin anything (I know it's an old game but I don't care).
The storytelling is as standard as it can be, every few zones we get a cutscene that advances the story or a big fight, it works and that's it, not much to say, the classic formula that games like Gears of war popularized so much.
The interesting part is that this game is a great way of entering the WH universe, it presents various factions, ideologies and also like to change the angle a bit inside of the Codex (Ultramarines aren't brainwashed soldiers that follow blindly) but that doesn't mean that they aren't loyal.
The Gameplay:
Classic over the shoulder shooter with the panda roll and various type of weaponry, the twist here is that melee weapons also exist and are pretty useful, this add a bit to the game but sadly starts to decay on the later parts of the game.

You can see blood but nothing traumatic, it just add a bit of flavor to the game |
We also have things like jetpacks or giant hammers, the jetpack is plot driven but you can actually choose the weapons you want to carry all the game with certain limitations.
For example you can carry 4 weapons plus your melee one, but only three "heavy ones" and only one, one handed like a pistol, but the limitations come with the usage of the heaviest melee weapon, with this you can only use your one handed weapon and your submachine gun the rest are only there.
This mixes the gameplay to be constantly shuffling, we have diverse weaponry and some original ones like the mine launcher, an almost like a heavy heat blast shotgun, a laser sniper or a rocket similar launcher, plus you will be getting some upgraded versions through the game.
Also we get a fury mode when our melee attacks do massive damage and our ranged attacks stop time when we are aiming, pretty useful.

The enemies also have variety, we have snipers, heavy gunners, grenadiers, suicide little creatures, demons, sounds like a lot but trust me they aren't... |
We also get some stat upgrades, and rage upgrades so we can keep getting the keeping stronger feeling through all the game.
They are very limited and long between each one of them, near the end we get a couple back to back but the point stands.
Quick time events, yes I know but nothing that breaks the deal, they're mostly cinematics with a bit of player input and there's at much 3 or four moments if my memory works.
In Conclusion:
The game is great, nothing breathtaking or something that could have marked a generation, as I stated through the review, it's a pretty basic game.
The strongest point of the game is that the setting and characters are pretty unique and somewhat original because the space marines never had a game centered in them in flesh of a small number if them, mostly like a chapter so it's a great presentation to the universe.
