When it comes to coop games, the variety isn't as big as we could wish.

The typical flash games, maybe some classics like Metal Slug or something more substantial as a Mario or in the newest era, Deep Rock.

But when this game meet the light, a fresh co-op game as fun and chaotic immediately caught my attention and with it my love for the saga.

So I welcome you all to the mini review of Overcooked the original classic version.

We have a cool story but pretty basic on the corners

The Gameplay:

The game is simple and plain on it's purpose, be fun and incentive the interactions between the players (you can play alone but isn't recommended)

We control from 2 to 4 chef's depending on the number of players (if you're playing alone then you will control 2 at the same time), with the objective of making the dishes of the day.

The gameplay is fairly simple and easy to understand but hard to master and that's where the heart is, anyone can play with you and be useful but the skill ceiling isn't that low for those seeking the 100%.

Some designs are fairly simple at first glance

On another instance we have the controls, basic movement in 3D, a button to pick items and interact with the different stations, another one to dash around and a last one for using the stations.

Things like slicing vegetables, peeling potatoes, preparing dought or mixing pancakes, the interaction is the same but the items can need different procedures so keep an eye out.

To clarify, for example you want to do a salad, then you must slice the necessary ingredients and put then on a plate, simple.

Now looking forward, for a pizza then you must get the dough to a slicing station to prepare it, then put the different ingredients and then to the oven, simple too but a little bit longer process.

Don't play hungry, it's.... hard

That's the nature of the game, a rinse and repeat  now let's talk about why is too fun, the levels.

Every level has gimmicks with the exception of a some early few that work more as tutorials for certain dishes.

Let's start with the basic ones, levels with tables that slide and make available some items depending the spot.

The craziness slowly increases with trucks on the road with kitchens, a boat or an iceberg, to more unique things like a swamp, levels that flood or a haunted house with teleportation.

There's a lot of them and that's why this game is so fun, the central gameplay is a loop but the diversity of scenarios, dishes and cooperation is a recipe for chaos and fun.

Preparing burritos on a volcano is a thing with Overcooked

In Conclusion:

Is a game that's pretty fun and engaging, the skill ceiling isn't too high and you can be pretty average and beat the game with flying colors.

The chaotic mix of cooperation in a strange kitchen with time pressure and lots of orders make for a experience that requires problem solving and communication skills.

To end this review, it's a great recommendation for a co-op game but without any friends to play it then loses the charm pretty quick so keep that in mind, also this version don't have online but the posterior games have it.

Maybe on the future we do a little article about the improvements of the next games so keep in touch.
